The Cliff Drysdale Tennis School, which runs the tennis camp, sometimes offers optional UTR tennis tournaments on Saturday afternoons and would be willing to run a tournament on Saturday, July 20 if there is interest from our group. Typically the tournaments are round robin singles with divisions, and other players in the area can enter (Link to their June 8 tournament) Participating in the tournament is completely optional. You could do tennis camp or the tournament or both! If you are potentially interested in the tournament, please reach out to Steve Backhaus at 617-470-6544 or stevebackhaus@outlook.com for more information.

2024 Summer Doubles League is here!

Hi all,

The 2024 Summer Doubles league is kicking off this week on Tuesday, 5/14 at 7PM. We will be sending out an additional email with more details regarding the schedule and other additional information.

For our first day, we would like to ask everyone to be there by 6:45pm. Steve Sage and Edwin Teca will be on-site at Winchester to welcome everyone and provide any additional information for the players.

Below you’ll find a reminder of the rules for the league.

Cheers!

-Edwin & Steve

League rules:

  1. Scoring:  One-deuce, and then no-advantage scoring will be used.  This means that, at the first deuce, you play it out; if someone wins the next 2 points, the game is over.  If you get back to deuce, you play 1 more point to decide the game’s winner, with the receiver choosing which side from which they’ll return (deuce or ad side).
  2. Super Tiebreak:  All matches will have a 3rd set tiebreak if they are tied at 1 set each.  A super tiebreak is like a regular tiebreak, except it’s first to 10 (instead of first to 7), by 2 points.  The next server will serve 1 point, then switch server every 2 points.
  3. Time Expired:  If time expires, please make every effortto finish the game or super tiebreak.  If players come on your court and you are unable to finish, the game will not count, regardless of the score (unless it’s in a super tiebreak, in which case if a player is ahead by 2 points, they will net 1 game; if there is not a 2-point differential, the super tiebreak will not count).
  4. COVID-19: We have several policies to ensure proper social distancing including (a) any Winchester COVID-19 rules must be followed by all participants, (b) we ask that you do not playand instead find a sub if you are demonstrating any potential symptoms of COVID-19.
  5. Winning:  The winner of the match will be determined by the person who accomplishes one of the following, with priority given to the higher item on the list: (a) Wins 2 sets, (b) Wins 1 set and a super tiebreak, (c) Finishes the match with the higher number of total games won
  6. Substitutes:  If you cannot play a match, it is your responsibilityto find a substitute; you can find the list on the Tennis4All website (or at this link).  Please make every effort to find a substitute in your level before NOON ON THE THURSDAY BEFORE THE MATCHand notify all of the league directors below.  If you cannot find a substitute, after every effort has been made, please let both your opponents and all the league directors know that you will not be able to make your match.
  7. If you find a substitute, a regular match will be played.
  8. If you cannot find a substitute, after every effort has been made, please let both your opponents and all league directors know that you will not be able to make your match.  Your opponent and/or partner will have the opportunity to use the court as they see fit.  You can play triples with the three who could make it, invite others to join you on the court (all must be T4A members), hit drills with a friend, or work on your serves.
  9. If neither team is going to use the court, we must know by NOON ON THE FRIDAY BEFORE THE MATCH.  If we don’t let the Winchester Tennis Club know that the court won’t be used by end-of-day Friday, we have to pay for the court (even if it’s not used).
  10. If you are unable to make a match but don’t know until after noon on Friday, please do your best to find a substitute.  Even though we have to pay for the court, we understand accidents and injuries happen.  However, we do ask that every effort be made to either find a substitute or forfeit the match by noon on Fridayto avoid paying for unnecessary court time.

  1. Late Arrivals:  Nobody wants to wait for their opponents to show up, and no one wants to be defaulted, so please make your best effort to be on time.
  2. 0:00-4:59 minutes late:  Late person/team will be down 1 game and will be the receiver in the first game played.
  3. 5:00 – 9:59 minutes late:  Late person/team will be down 2 games and will be the receiver in the first game played.
  4. 10:00 – 14:59 minutes late:  Late person/team will be down 3 games and will be the receiver in the first game played.
  5. 15:00+ minutes late:  Late person/team is defaulted.

  1. No Shows:  No Shows with no notice that you can’t play your match will not be tolerated.  After the first instance, you’ll be put on notice that you’re in violation, and after the second you’ll be eliminated from the league with no refund.

  1. Code of Conduct:  The T4A Code of Conduct is on the Tennis4All website.  Please read it, as you’ll be required to follow it.
