These rules apply to Tennis4All Singles League matches. Please review them before your first match and return to them whenever a scoring, timing, or attendance question comes up.
1. Scoring
Use one-deuce, then no-advantage scoring.
- At the first deuce, play the game out normally.
- If one player wins the next two points, that player wins the game.
- If the score returns to deuce, play one deciding point. The receiver chooses whether to receive on the deuce or ad side.
2. Third-Set Super Tiebreak
If the match is tied at one set each, play a super tiebreak instead of a full third set.
- First to 10 points, winning by two.
- The next server serves one point.
- After the first point, service changes every two points.
3. When Time Expires
Make every effort to finish the game or super tiebreak in progress.
- If incoming players require the court before the game is finished, that unfinished game does not count, regardless of its score.
- For an unfinished super tiebreak, a player who is ahead by at least two points receives one net game.
- If the unfinished super tiebreak has less than a two-point difference, it does not count.
4. Determining the Winner
Use the first applicable result in this order:
- Wins two sets.
- Wins one set and the super tiebreak.
- Finishes with the greater total number of games won.
5. Substitutes and Cancellations
If you cannot play, it is your responsibility to make every effort to find a substitute from the league’s substitute list.
Thursday deadline: Try to secure a substitute at your level by noon on the Thursday before the match, and notify all league directors.
- If you find a substitute, play the match normally.
- If you cannot find a substitute after making every effort, notify your opponent and all league directors. Your opponent may use the court with other Tennis4All members for singles, doubles, drills, or serve practice.
- If neither player will use the court, notify the league directors by noon on the Friday before the match. The club charges for courts not cancelled by the Friday deadline.
- If you become unavailable after noon on Friday, do your best to find a substitute. Accidents and injuries happen, but every effort should be made to find a substitute or forfeit by the deadline to avoid unnecessary court charges.
6. Late Arrivals
Please make every effort to arrive on time. The following penalties apply:
| Arrival | Penalty |
|---|---|
| 0:00–4:59 late | Start down one game and receive in the first game played. |
| 5:00–9:59 late | Start down two games and receive in the first game played. |
| 10:00–14:59 late | Start down three games and receive in the first game played. |
| 15:00 or more late | Default the match. |
7. No-Shows
No-shows without notice are not tolerated.
- First instance: The player is formally notified that they are in violation.
- Second instance: The player is removed from the league without a refund.
8. Code of Conduct
All league players must follow the Tennis4All Code of Conduct.
